Something to look forward to

A little wishing and hoping doesn't hurt now and again, right?

I'm getting my plans together to use my pasta maker for the first time today and so I'm looking up simple ravioli fillings online and came across this recipe that I'm pretty sure I need to make before I die. However, it doesn't make any sense to cook with Lobster in Michigan, therefore I am documenting here so I can refer to it the next time we visit my parents in New England.

If we make it this summer, local fresh lobster is quite cheap when it's in season so it doesn't need to be a splurge. Plus, my mom and I could make it together and who doesn't love cooking with their own mom?

Yes, please.

Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without.

This old Pioneer proverb that has echoed in my mind throughout various stages of life is the basis for these ideas and my current mantra as I fulfill the role of a stay at home contributor to my family. Because I'm home, I have time to devote to planning, preparing, working on, and seeing through more frugal endeavors. I can invest my time in a different kind of payoff- saving money instead of earning it.

This blog chronicles my attempts and serves as a reference as well as a source of accountability. My desire is to fill every day with meaningful work that blesses my home, because I'm here.

Consuming less

Mothers who know do less. They permit less of what will not bear good fruit eternally. They allow less media in their homes, less distraction, less activity that draws their children away from their home. Mothers who know are willing to live on less and consume less of the world’s goods in order to spend more time with their children—more time eating together, more time working together, more time reading together, more time talking, laughing, singing, and exemplifying. These mothers choose carefully and do not try to choose it all.
